The Menu Bar
What the mark and its colors mean, and every item in the Merriweather menu.
Merriweather stays quiet. The mark in the menu bar carries its state, and the menu is a normal macOS menu.
The mark
The mark is a rounded outline with a small dot at the upper left and a larger dot at the right.
- Pulsing green large dot: Merriweather is tracking your work.
- Orange large dot: it is listening to a meeting.
- Red large dot: it needs you. A question is waiting, or something went wrong. Open the menu to see which.
- Faded mark: tracking is paused or disabled.
- White or black, matching the menu bar, with no color: there is no engagement yet.
Beside the mark is the day's counted time, such as 1.5h. It is rounded to the engagement's Tracking granularity.
The menu
From the top:
- A question or an error, when there is one. For a question about time you were away, the menu offers Yes, Keep Counting, No, Do Not Count, and Something Changed. Something Changed opens a small box to say what it was.
- The tracking item, named for the engagement, such as "Acme Tracking is Active". Its submenu has Active, Pause 1 hour, Pause 1 day, Pause until activity, Switch to another engagement when you have several, and Disable All Tracking.
- Configure Merriweather or Configure an Engagement, until each is done.
- Today and This Week, each with its time at the right. Pending time shows beside Today.
- Ledger opens the day's work.
- Log Work adds time you worked away from the Mac.
- Listen and Remember starts a meeting. While one is running it reads Stop Listening.
- Transcript brings back the live transcript when it is minimized or hidden.
- People, Knowledge, Ask, Projects, Documents, Known Terms, Follow Through, and Settings open their windows.
- Quit Merriweather.
Log Work, Transcript, and Ask appear once an engagement exists.
Windows
Merriweather appears in the Dock and the app switcher only while a window is open.
Each window has a pin in its title bar that keeps it on top. Today, This Week, Ledger, People, Knowledge, and Projects also have a reload button. It drops what was kept from your calendar, address book, and directory, and reads them again.
Quitting
Choose Quit Merriweather from the menu to quit at once. Pressing Command-Q must be held for about a second. This stops a stray keystroke from ending the day's tracking.
Notifications
Settings, under Notifications, has one switch. When it is on, Merriweather tells you when tracking or a meeting starts, pauses, resumes, or stops, when a conversation could be remembered, and when a follow-through item changed in two places. It does not announce changes of what you are working on.
