Today and the Ledger
Today, This Week, and the Ledger, and how to correct, answer, log, and pause.
Today
Today prepares your day. It has three tabs.
- Overview opens with a short brief of the day, written by the on-device model. Without the model you get a plain list of meetings. Below it are TO DO (follow-through items that are due, overdue, or undated), DONE, the NOW or NEXT meeting, and WORK SO FAR with a link to the Ledger.
- Hourly lists the hours that have a meeting in them. Choose a meeting to see it in the third tab.
- Now is the meeting in progress, or the next one: who is in it, a short preparation, what was said last time, and the follow-through items still open.
Meetings come from your calendar and from meetings Merriweather remembered. On a day with none, Hourly and Now say No Meetings Today.
This Week
This Week shows each day with its brief, the items you finished, the work from the Ledger, and your meetings. Step through weeks with the arrows.
A meeting in grey is not in the Ledger. One in blue is still ahead. On a grey one, the stopwatch asks Add this as worked time? Yes puts it on the Ledger.
The foot shows ELAPSED, FORECAST, PENDING, and GOODWILL. Forecast adds only meetings already scheduled.
The Ledger
The Ledger shows one day at a time. Each block has a time, the engagement, what the work was, how Merriweather knows (for example Tracked by Merriweather, pending, or not work), and the time counted. Totals are at the foot.
Merriweather presumes your work carried on. It does not presume the work was billable. Time it did not see is left blank, and it never guesses what happened in it.
Correcting a block
Choose a block to open its panel. There you can add or remove an Activity, tag a project, add a note, and choose Not work, Not billable, or Counts as work. A correction changes how the Ledger reads the time. It does not change what was seen.
Questions
If you come back after longer than the Continuation window, the Ledger asks Keep counting this work? Answer Yes, No, or Change, and say what changed. The menu offers the same question. Short gaps are bridged without asking. Time waiting on an answer shows as PENDING.
For a calendar meeting that was not remembered, the Ledger asks Track Hours For, with Yes and No. Questions from memory appear here too. See Memory and Ask.
Log Work
Log Work adds time you worked away from the Mac. Choose it in the menu or in the Ledger. Set the from and to times, say what the work was, and choose Log Work. If the time overlaps a meeting, you get a warning. It does not stop you.
Pause
The tracking item in the menu offers:
- Pause 1 hour and Pause 1 day.
- Pause until activity, which resumes when you are next at the Mac. The time between is not work, and you are not asked about it.
- Disable All Tracking, which lasts until you turn it back on. At 9:00 on the next weekday Merriweather offers to re-enable it.
While paused, Merriweather does not start a meeting or offer to.
